Men earn highest ranking since 1998, women since 2017 in USTFCCCA regular-season poll.
For the third time in school history, the Missouri men's and women's cross country teams are both ranked in the same regular season United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll – the men's team ranks No. 20, while the women hold the No. 24 spot, announced Tuesday afternoon.
The men's ranking marks their highest placement since 1998, while the women's team earned their best ranking since 2017. It is also the eighth time the men have appeared in the USTFCCCA cross country poll and first since 2012.
Alongside the national recognition, both programs continue to climb in the Midwest regional standings. The men moved up to No. 3 and the women to No. 4 in this week's USTFCCCA regional rankings after opening the season at sixth and fifth, respectively.
The Tigers are coming off strong performances at the Gans Creek Classic on Friday. The women placed eighth out of 31 teams in the 6k, led by freshman Monica Wanjiku's 11th-place finish in 19:35.1, marking the fifth-best result among freshmen in the race. The men secured 12th in the 8k, highlighted by Elijah Limo's personal-best 13:30.0 to finish 36th and as the fifth-fastest freshman in the field.
The women finished eighth in the 6k on Friday with 254 points in a loaded field of 31, topping teams such as nationally-ranked No. 16 Michigan State and No. 24 Lipscomb, while Mizzou's men took 12th place in the 8k after scoring 404, beating out No. 7 Stanford, No. 17 Eastern Kentucky and No. 18 Washington State.
