COLUMBIA, Mo. – Current and former University of Missouri track and field student-athletes posted standout performances at national and international competitions over the past two weeks, highlighted by Gabi Jacobs qualifying for the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
Jacobs, a 2019 graduate, placed third in the women's discus at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championship with a throw of 63.33m (207-9). Her finish secured a spot on Team USA for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled for September 13-21.
Fellow Mizzou alumna Karissa Schweizer, a six-time NCAA champion, also competed at the USATF Outdoor Championships, placing sixth in the women's 5000 meters in 15:16.76 and sixth in the 10,000 meters in 32:10.82.
Internationally, several Tigers represented their home countries with strong performances:
-2025 NCAA women's javelin national champion Valentina Barrios took second at the Colombian National Championships, throwing 58.28m (191-2).
-Callan Saldutto captured the men's javelin title at the Canadian National Championships with a mark of 72.52m (237-11).
-Kristi Perez-Snyman finished fourth in the women's high jump at the World University Games while representing South Africa, clearing 1.84m (6-0).
Current Mizzou athletes also impressed on the global stage:
-Morgan Yeomans won the women's 1500m prelims at the Canadian U20 National Championships in 4:39.40 and went on to place fifth in the final in 4:31.23.
-Lasse Funck earned an eighth-place finish in the men's 800m at the German National Championship.
-Kobi Walker claimed third in the women's 6000m at the U20 Trans-Tasman Cross Country Championships, clocking 21:43.23.
Missouri cross country opens its upcoming 2025 season the annual Mizzou Opener on Friday, August 29, its first of four regular season home meets at Gans Creek Cross Country Course. The venue will also serve as the site for the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 22.
