COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri soccer played South Dakota State to a draw, 1-1, in its 2025 season opener on Thursday night at Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
The Tigers scored their first goal of the season in the 41st minute after a Landis Canada corner kick went across the post and was bobbled around before being hauled in by Emily Derucki, who found Ava Vetter and scored her first career goal from point-blank range on the right side.
Junior Kate Phillips, who finished with four saves, recorded her first of the evening after securing a shot at the bottom center of the net off a header delivered by a corner kick in the tenth minute. The Tigers went on to outshoot the Jackrabbits in the half, 3-2, and ultimately held South Dakota State scoreless in the first period.
Mizzou's defense continued to stifle its opponent to open the second half, as Phillips made a diving save from an SDSU shot to the left corner in the 53rd minute. Phillips stopped a second shot in the 70th minute after a Jackrabbit pass from midfield eventually made its way to just outside the penalty box and set up a shot from 18 feet out before being hauled in.
With twelve minutes to go in the contest, South Dakota State found the back of the net to knot up the score, eventually ending in a draw.
