Big Second Inning Powers No. 16 Alabama Past Baseball

Box Score

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 16 Alabama rode an eight-run second inning and a complete-game mound effort from Zane Adams to a 12-1 victory over University of Missouri baseball that completed a Southeastern Conference series sweep Saturday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Will Hodo hit a pair of home runs, including a three-run shot that opened the scoring in the second, and Kade Snell added a 3-for-4 performance to key the Crimson Tide's 15-hit attack. Adams (6-2) held the Tigers in check over his seven-inning complete-game effort, allowing just a Mateo Serna solo shot in the third, while striking out five and scattering five hits.

Alabama (35-10, 12-9 SEC) put its first nine hitters on base in the game's critical rally, homering three times during the same span, to build a lead that the Tigers would never threaten. Back-to-back hits from Brady Neal and Garrett Staton started the rally and set up Hodo's first home run for a 3-0 Crimson Tide lead. Jason Torres followed with his 10th homer of the season, before Bryce Fowler went deep for a two-run shot that made it a six-run game two batters later.

Following a Justin Lebron single, Snell and Richie Bonomolo Jr., delivered RBI doubles – two of the Tide's six extra-base hits in the inning – to extend the margin to 8-0.

Adams yielded Serna's seventh homer of the season to lead off the third, but little more over the next four innings. The left-hander allowed only three more singles and faced just four batters over the minimum in his seven innings.

The Tide added a pair of runs on RBI singles from Snell and Bonomolo in the third, then tacked on single tallies in each of the next two frames. Hodo belted his second homer of the day with one out in the fourth, before Neal's two-out single produced the 12th Alabama run in the fifth.

Mizzou (13-30, 0-21 SEC) right-hander Sam Horn (0-1) suffered the setback in his first SEC start, working a scoreless first inning before Alabama touched him up for five runs in the second.
