Softball Drops Series Opener at No. 15/16 Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. - University of Missouri softball fell to No. 15/16 Mississippi State, 7-0, Friday evening in the series opener at Nusz Park.

STARKVILLE, Miss. - University of Missouri softball fell to No. 15/16 Mississippi State (32-10, 8-5 SEC), 7-0, Friday evening in the series opener at Nusz Park.

With the loss, Missouri moves to 20-23 this season and 2-11 in SEC play.

Stefania Abruscato (1-for-3) and Abby Hay (1-for-3) both registered hits Friday night while Madison Uptegrove drew a walk.

The Bulldogs struck first in the opening inning before extending the advantage to 3-0 after a two-run homer from Kalani Sells.

Kylee Edwards added a solo shot in the fifth before MSU tallied three insurance runs in the sixth.

Starter Cierra Harrison was handed the loss (9-7), allowing four earned runs on five hits over 5.0 innings with a strikeout.

Nathalie Touchet (0.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 H) and Jayci Kruse (0.1 IP) both saw relief action Friday.

Raelin Chaffin threw a complete-game shutout to improve to 17-6, striking out five batters.

Missouri had a season-high four errors in the loss.
