MINNEAPOLIS - University of Missouri tennis fell short to Minnesota, 5-2, at Baseline Tennis Center on Friday, Feb. 7.

The Tigers, with their first loss of the spring season, now fall to 3-1, while the Gophers now are 4-2. Missouri started the match strong, claiming the doubles point over Minnesota going 1-0. Grad Student Lailaa Bashir and Freshman Zoe Lazar finished first on court 3, topping the Gophers 6-1. Junior Andrea Artimedi and senior Mary Brumfield clinched the doubles point on court 2, 3-6.

Freshman Gian Octa took charge of her singles match, defeating Minnesota's Denez Turan only in two sets 6-4, 6-1 on court 5. Freshman Korina Roso and Artimedi fought hard going into their third sets but fell short, with Artimedi losing 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 on court 4 and Rosa 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 on court 6.

The Tigers continue their weekend trip with a doubleheader on Sunday, February 9, against Colorado State and St. Thomas at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
