Women's Golf Finishes Strong Day One at Texas

The Missouri women's golf team is tied for seventh of 12 schools at 12-under par after 36 holes at the Sam Golden Invitational.

The Tigers are 12-under through two rounds of action, led by a strong second round at North Texas. After an opening-round score of even-par 288, Mizzou carded a 12-under 276 in the second round to move up four spots in the standings. The 276 is also tied for the fifth-best single round in school history.

Senior Emily Staples and junior Ffion Tynan led the Tigers through the first day of play - recording a five-under 139. Staples tied the low round of her collegiate career in the opening 18 holes with a four-under 68 before adding a 71 during the second round. Overall, the senior carded seven birdies against just two bogeys through 36 holes. Tynan added a personal-best 67 in the second to match Staples at five under as the duo heads into the final round tied for 14th of 71 golfers.

Freshman Fleur van Beek fired a two-under 142 with eight bridies in her debut, tying the school record for a single round by a freshman with her 67 in the second round. She matched the mark set by Emma Allen in 2015.
