Track and Field Records Three Top-10 Marks at 2023 SEC Indoor Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo.. – The University of Missouri track and field team sent 39 athletes to Fayetteville, Ark. over the weekend for the 2023 SEC Championships. The Tigers had a multitude of personal-best marks and top-10 times in program history across the competition.

Senior Roberto Vilches headlined the Tigers' weekend performances in the high jump. Vilches tied the third-best mark in Mizzou history at 2.21m and additionally tied the eighth-highest jump in the nation in 2023 on Saturday as he placed second overall in the event.

On the women's side, Sydney Oberdiek threw 20.93m in the weight throw to place seventh. The personal-best mark ranks her third-all time in school history.

Tiger Top Finishers

  • Isabella Sokolova leaped 6.02m in the women's long jump on Friday — placing eighth overall and notching the eighth-best mark in program history.
  • Angus Beer ran a personal-best time of 4:04.83 in the men's mile on Friday, advancing to Saturday's final round where he finished sixth (4:05.67).
  • Kelsey Schweizer ran for a personal-best time of 2:07.46 in the women's 800m prelims, finishing 13th.
  • Johnny Martin ran a personal-best time of 1:51.88 in the men's 800m prelims, finishing 18th.
  • The men's distance relay team placed ninth with a 9:48.98 time, while the women took seventh — finishing in 11:22.70.
  • Vilches leaped 2.21m in the men's high jump final Saturday, placing second overall and tying the eighth-best mark in the nation this season. Vilches' jump also tied for the third-highest in school history with Ben Lucero (1984) and Landon Kuskelly (2019).
  • Mitchell Small notched a personal-best time in the men's 3000m final — running an 8:10.10 time and finishing 11th overall for the Tigers.
  • Claudina Diaz claimed fourth in the high jump clearing 1.80m in a season-best performance.
