COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III was named one of 17 semifinalists for the 87th Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year, the Maxwell Football Club announced.
Burden is third in the SEC in receiving, racking up 984 yards on 68 receptions. With 16 additional receiving yards, he would become just the eighth Tiger (and first since J'Mon Moore in 2017) to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. He strung together five consecutive 100-yard receiving performances (Sept. 9-Oct.7), the second Tiger to accomplish the feat and first since 2009. Burden registered seven straight games with seven receptions or more earlier this season.
He was honored by the Associated Press as a unanimous Midseason All-American selection and earned mid-year honors from multiple publications. He is also on the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award for the nation's most outstanding receiver.
The winner of the 87th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show which will be broadcast live on ESPN on Friday December 8, 2023. The formal presentation of the award will take place at the 87th Maxwell Awards Gala which will be held on Friday March 8, 2024.
