COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III and quarterback Brady Cook were added to the watch list for the 2023 Maxwell Award, presented to the Outstanding Player in college football, the Maxwell Football Club announced.
Burden earned midseason First-Team All-America honors from the Associated Press and numerous other outlets. He ranks second nationally with 808 receiving yards and fourth overall with 56 catches. The yardage total represents the most in Mizzou history for any receiver through seven games. He started the season with five consecutive 100-yard receiving performances (Sept. 9-Oct. 7). The St. Louis native's average of 8.0 receptions per outing leads the SEC and ranks fourth among all FBS receivers this season.
Cook enters the weekend ranked sixth among all FBS QBs in passing yardage (2,046) this season. He has logged 300+ yards passing in four of the last five games, including a career-best 411 yards against LSU. He became the eighth Mizzou quarterback to throw for 400 yards or more (the 18th overall 400-yard performance in program history). The St. Louis native surpassed the 2,000-yard passing mark for the second-straight season, becoming the ninth MU QB to produce multiple 2,000-yard campaigns. He was a recent addition to the watch list for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.
The No. 20 Tigers return to action this weekend in the battle for the Mayor's Cup against South Carolina. The game kicks off from a sold out Faurot Field/Memorial Stadium at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 21. MU celebrates its 112th homecoming with the annual parade starting the day at 9 a.m. through the streets of Downtown Columbia.
