COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 15/8 University of Missouri softball (13-4) run-ruled and no-hit St. Thomas (2-10) by a score of 13-0 to open the 2022 home slate.
The Tigers jumped right out in front in the first inning with three-straight singles from Brooke Wilmes, Jenna Laird and Kimberly Wert, taking a 1-0 lead into the second.
Alex Honnold got things started in the second with a double off the center field wall and Casidy Chaumont brought her home with a double of her own, but she was thrown out at third attempting to turn it into a triple. Brooke Wilmes then drove the first pitch that she saw over the center field wall to make it 3-0. Jenna Laird then ripped a double off the center field wall. After Wert walked, Kara Daly crushed her second home run of the season to center to blow the game open at 6-0.
Jordan Weber had a short but efficient outing, going three innings and retiring all nine batters that she faced.
In the bottom of the third, the Tiger bats picked up where they left off. With two on, Casidy Chaumont crushed a line drive to center field that was initially ruled as a double, but after the umpires met, it was determined that the ball had hit the top of the wall and was deflected back into play for a home run. Jenna Laird tripled with two outs, but the Tigers could not bring her in.
Megan Schumacher pitch an inning for the Tigers and retired all three batters herself, striking out one and forcing the other two into groundouts right back to the pitcher.
In the fourth, the Tigers added on to the growing lead. After singles from Daly and Hatti Moore, Kendyll Bailey ripped a double down the right field line to score each of them, making it 11-0. After singles from Gabi Deters and Chantice Phillips, Kelsee Mortimer drove a pinch-hit triple into right center to make it 13-0.
Jayci Kruse entered in the fifth inning and retired the side, giving the Tigers their second no-hitter of the season.
