Wilhite, Gerken Record Top-10 Marks on Day One of Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Mizzou Track & Field opened up day one of the Tyson Invitational capturing two first place finishes and setting eleven personal bests.
NOTABLE FINISHES
With a leap of 6.17m (20-3), Ayele Gerken (Dorentrup, Germany) now sits third all-time in Mizzou indoor history for the women's long jump. This new personal-best is currently tied for seventh in the SEC and tied 27th in the NCAA in the event.
Marquette Wilhite (Warrensburg, Mo.) took fourth place in the men's 3000m, setting a new personal-best of 8:03.64. With this time, he moves up to third place in the Mizzou indoor top-10 record book for the men's 3000m. Additionally, Melissa Menghini (Fenton, Mo.) captured the first place title in the women's 3000m with a time of 9:29.14.
In the men's weight throw, Mitchell Weber (Saint Claire, Minn.) placed sixth with a throw of 20.13m (66-½), a new personal-best. Ethan Hanson (Palatine, Ill.) also had a new personal-best with a throw of 18.03m (59-2). Weber and Hanson now move into 12th and 20th in the SEC indoor men's weight throw rankings, respectively.
Sydney Oberdiek (Platte City, Mo.) captured the women's weight throw title with a throw of 19.41m (63-8¼), which moves her to 10th in the SEC.
UP NEXT
Mizzou continues competition tomorrow at the Tyson Invitational. The action begins at 11:00 a.m. CT with the women's high jump. Track events will begin at 12:45 p.m. CT with the men's 800m. The Tigers will wrap up the meet on Saturday.
