
No. 15 Mizzou Softball Takes on No. 16/14 LSU in SEC Tournament Opener

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 15 Mizzou Softball will face off with No. 16/14 LSU in a rematch to open the fourth-seeded Tigers' SEC Tournament. Fifth-seeded LSU defeated South Carolina 7-3 to advance to face Missouri. Mizzou will be facing at top-20 opponent for the 10th-consecutive game.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network. It will begin 35 minutes following the conclusion of the Florida-Mississippi State game that begins at 11 a.m. CT. Eric Frede and Amanda Scarborough will be on the call.
LSU took the regular season series over Mizzou in April, winning both ends of a Sunday doubleheader. Missouri run-ruled the Bayou Bengals in the series opener, winning 9-1 in five innings.
Mizzou is coming off a series win on the road at Tennessee. After falling in the opener, the Tigers fought back with seven home runs in the last two games to take the series and lock up the bye.
Five Mizzou players earned All-SEC honors. Shortstop Jenna Laird was named Freshman of the Year in the conference while also receiving First Team All-SEC and All-Freshman honors. Brooke Wilmes and Casidy Chaumont were each named to the All-SEC Second Team. Sophomore pitchers Jordan Weber and Emma Nichols were each named All-Newcomer, a category added this season for 2020 freshmen. Nichols and Chaumont were also named to the SEC All-Defensive team. To round out the awards, Katherine Kadlec was named to the SEC Community Service Team.
