COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (12-32, 5-19 SEC) faces a top-five opponent for the second consecutive weekend as the Tigers visit No. 3 Mississippi State (35-11, 16-8 SEC) at Dudy Noble Field.
Game one of the series between the Tigers and Bulldogs is set for 7:30 p.m. CT on Thursday night (May 13). The series opener will air on ESPNU. Game two is slated for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch on Friday before Saturday's finale at 1 p.m. Both game two and three will air on SEC Network+.
Fans can also tune-in to KTGR (105.1 FM, 100.5 FM, 1580 AM) to catch the Tigers throughout the entire 2021 season with Tex Little and Matt Michaels on the call.
The matchup
• Mizzou is just 2-9 all-time against Mississippi State. 10 of the 11 meetings have come in Mizzou's SEC era.
• The first-ever meeting came in the 2003 Starkville regional, a 10-5 Bulldog win.
• The Tigers are 2-1 under head coach Steve Bieser when taking on Miss State. Mizzou bookended the 2018 series with victories in the most recent meetings between the two clubs.
• Mark Vierling had the game-winning sac fly in the 11th inning of the 2018 series finale to provide Mizzou the victory.
• Two of those three games went to extra innings, as the Tigers and Bulldogs played 15 frames in game two before the 11-inning finale.
• The longest game in Mizzou baseball history also came against Miss State, a 17-inning affair in the 2013 SEC Tournament.
BELK ON THE ROAD
• Senior Brandt Belk has produced some of his best work on the road for the Tigers this season, hitting .342 away from Taylor Stadium.
• The outfielder has recorded nine of his team-leading 13 doubles while on the road and 11 of his 16 RBI.
• Belk has struck out only six times in 73 at-bats on the road this season.
KEEFER LEADING THE BATS
• Fifth-year Andrew Keefer continues to be Mizzou's most consistent bat, hitting .294 on the season.
• The righty is hitting .364 in the last five games for the Tigers with three RBI and another three runs scored.
• Keefer added his second home run of the season in Friday night's matchup against Tennessee.
• The outfielder's 18 RBI are tied for second on the team this season and his eight doubles are also second-best on the club.
