FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 18/19 Mizzou Softball (33-10, 11-5) earned their first Top-Ten road win since 2019 with a 6-3 victory over the No. 8/6 Arkansas Razorbacks.
The Tigers were trailing early in the contest. After going down quietly in the top of the first, two walks and a three-run home run from Danielle Gibson gave Arkansas the early lead.
In the top of the second, Casidy Chaumont led off with a triple. However, Mizzou was unable to bring her around, leaving her stranded on third.
The Tigers finally got on the board in the third. Alex Honnold was able to get the Mizzou bats rolling with a double down the left field line. After a Brooke Wilmes walk, Jenna Laird knocked a single up the middle to score the first run of the game for Mizzou. With two outs and two strikes, Casidy Chaumont ripped a clutch double into left center to bring home two runs and tie the ballgame at three.
In the bottom of the third, a two out double from Gibson looked to give Arkansas the lead, but a relay from Brooke Wilmes to Jenna Laird to Hatti Moore caught the runner at the plate to end the inning.
Instead, the Tigers took the lead on a two-out, two-strike solo home run from Kendyll Bailey in the top of the fourth. It was her fifth of the season.
The Tigers loaded the bases in the fifth inning, but nothing came across. A close play at first ended the inning, preventing the runner on third from scoring.
TURNING POINT
In the sixth inning, Mizzou was able to threaten once again. With first two batters reaching, Alex Honnold came up big for Mizzou once again. Honnold knocked a single back up the middle to put a key insurance run on the board for Mizzou, making it 5-3 for the Tigers.
The Razorbacks threatened in the bottom of the sixth. A pair of walks and a fielder's choice put runners on the corners with two outs. Emma Nichols was able to get a big strikeout to close out the inning and maintain the two-run lead.
Kimberly Wert led off the seventh with a double to left-center field and Emma Raabe quickly put another run on the board with a double off the right field wall. The Tigers led 6-3 entering the bottom of the seventh. Emma Nichols was able to close it out and give the Tigers the victory.
