
No. 18/19 Mizzou Softball Hits the Road for Showdown with No. 8/6 Arkansas

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 18/19 Mizzou Softball (32-10, 10-5 SEC) will face off with No. 8/6 Arkansas (37-5, 16-2 SEC) in a three-game series that will be key in determining the outcome of the SEC standings. The opening game on SEC Network Plus is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT on Saturday with Megan Turk and Josh Haley on the call. Games two and three will air on SEC Network with Jenny Dalton-Hill and Pam Ward calling each game. First pitch in game two is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT on Sunday and game three will start at 6 p.m. CT on Monday evening.
Currently, the Razorbacks stand at the top of the table, while the Tigers are still in the race at fourth place. No. 3 Florida and No. 5 Alabama stand in between Arkansas and Mizzou.
The Tigers are coming off a series sweep over Mississippi State. After the opening game of the series was postponed, Mizzou took the first two games in a doubleheader on Saturday by scores of 5-2 and 4-3. Missouri finished off the sweep with a 6-5 win on Senior Day at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Jenna Laird was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for her performance in the series against Mississippi State. In the series, she batted .667 at the plate with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI. In the final game of the series, the freshman drove in the game-winning run with a single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth inning. Laird is batting .472 in SEC play after 15 games.
Emma Nichols entered the week tied for the lead in Division I with six. Nichols recorded a save in each of the first two games against Mississippi State while being awarded the victory in the finale.
Brooke Wilmes has moved into the top ten in two Mizzou career categories. Wilmes is in a tie for third with 51 career doubles and she is now ninth in Tiger history with 152 runs scored.
Outfielder Casidy Chaumont has been a productive bat for Mizzou of late while also impressing with her arm. Chaumont has recorded an outfield assist in each of the last two SEC series for the Tigers. She is batting .382 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 12 SEC games.
As a team, the Tigers are second in the nation with 75 doubles on the season. Mizzou is ninth in the nation with a .337 team batting average while sitting in 11th in runs per game at 7.12.
