COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Soccer (5-3-2) was able to grab a win in their first game of the spring with a shutout against Creighton (0-1-0).
For Mizzou's highly explosive attack, it was a frustrating game. Much of the game was played in the center of the field and there were few chances dispersed between the two teams.
"Creighton gave us all that we could handle. When I look back at it, I think it was a bit of a wake-up call and it will refocus us for next week against BYU." Head Coach Bryan Blitz said, "They had a great coaching plan for us, and we were challenged fully to come up with a new plan. We made a tactical change and to the girls' credit, they responded."
Creighton was able to muster a couple of good looks on goal, only to be turned aside by Isabella Alessio. The Chicago native came up with three big saves in the contest.
TURNING POINT
After a scoreless 70 minutes and few good looks on goal by either team, the Tigers were able to cross a ball into the box that bounced around in front of the net. While a Creighton defender attempted to shield the ball, Jadyn Easley poked the ball free to Julissa Cisneros and she tapped it in to the lower, right corner of the goal.
Mizzou did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game, despite Creighton's increased pressure. Isabella Alessio produced her first shutout as a Tiger.
TOP TIGERS
Isabella Alessio was key to the Tiger's win over Creighton. She stopped all three of Creighton's shots on goal.
Julissa Cisneros produced the only goal of the contest on a scuffle in the box. Cisneros led all players in the contest with three shots.
Cassidy Nurnberger was a valuable contributor to the Tiger defense. The veteran midfielder logged all 90 minutes of the game and was a force on defense.
NOTES
Julissa Cisneros knocked in the 19th goal of her career, which ties her for 10th in Mizzou history.
Jadyn Easley picked up her first assist of the season by tapping the ball over to Cisneros for the game-winning goal. She also played a season-high 50 minutes in the match.
Grace Pettet did not exit the contest. The freshman has become an integral piece of the Tiger defense.
