Endowment Will Provide Scholarships to One Mizzou Male & One Female Student-Athlete Annually
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Longtime Tiger fan Marlese Loveall has made a $1M contribution to the University of Missouri's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to establish the Marlese and Dale Loveall Scholarship Endowment, Mizzou Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced today. In addition, some of the gift will be utilized to support the scholarship expenses of current Mizzou student-athletes.
"Marlese bleeds black and gold, and we are extremely grateful that she has established this endowed scholarship in honor of her late husband, Dale, who also had a great love and passion for the Tigers," Sterk said. "I have found Marlese to be someone who enjoys the opportunity to help others, and her generosity will assist current student-athletes as well as those who follow in their footsteps.
"Scholarship costs continue to rise, and one way we can help offset future departmental expenses and ensure that Mizzou student-athletes continue to have the opportunity to pursue academic and athletic excellence at a world-class University through an outstanding experience is through scholarship endowments," he added.
The Loveall Scholarship Endowment will annually fund the scholarship costs for one Mizzou male and female student-athlete, an expense that currently runs more than $11M annually for the department's 20-sport intercollegiate athletics program. In addition, $250,000 of the gift will go toward immediate scholarship costs.
"For more than 30 years Dale and I had the privilege of cheering on many outstanding Mizzou student-athletes, and I am grateful for the opportunity to provide this endowment, not only in honor of my late husband, but to provide opportunities for future generations of Tigers to compete at the highest level," Loveall said. "Mizzou Athletics is doing great things within our state, and continues to have a bright future under the leadership of Jim Sterk, and his dedicated team of talented coaches and staff.
"This is an exciting time to be a Mizzou fan with the excitement surrounding Coach Drinkwitz's football program and our nationally-ranked men's basketball team, and it is important that Tigers everywhere step up in support of Mizzou Athletics," she added. "I am grateful to be in position to do my part in support of something that has meant so much to my family and I for more than 30 years."
