The Tigers kick off the season in Nashville, Tenn.
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Track and Field is set to begin its indoor season in Nashville, Tenn., with competition at the Vanderbilt Commodore Indoor kicking off Friday at 4 p.m. CT and resuming Saturday at noon CT. The meet will be streamed live on YouTube.
The meet will feature a field of all-SEC foes, squads from Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt (women).
For Mizzou, the throwers will be the first to compete, with the men's and women's weight throws being amongst the first events of the afternoon. The Tigers will send sophomores Olivia Evans (Louisville, Ky.) and Sydney Johnson (Beloit, Kan.), junior Sydney Oberdiek (Platte City, Mo.) and senior Emily Stauffer (Reinholds, Penn.) on the women's side and Mitch Weber (Saint Clair, Minn.) on the men's side.
When competition resumes on Saturday, the remainder of the throws squad will compete in the shot put. In addition to Stauffer and Weber, juniors Emily Offenheiser (Elizabeth, Ill.) and Jordan Speer (Dighton, Kan.) and sophomore Devin Roberson (Jefferson City, Mo.) will participate in the women's and men's events, respectively.
Junior Jayson Ashford (Fairview Heights, Ill.), sophomore Jacob Brunsman (Fenton, Mo.), senior Nylo Clarke (Riverside, Mo.) and freshman Rondajai Washington (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) will lead the charge for the sprinters, competing first in the men's and women's 60m dash, respectively. Ashford and Clarke will look to better personal records in the 60m and 200m dashes, in which each event they both hold top-10 program records.
The distance squad will have a strong presence in Nashville with entries into four distance races. Included in the weekend's entries will be redshirt senior Karina Liz (Aurora, Ill.), who will return to the track after redshirting the 2020 indoor season. Liz won a conference title in 2018 as a member of the distance medley relay team.
The field events and track events will run simultaneously throughout the second day of competition. The meet will close with the men's and women's 4x400 Relays.
