COLUMBIA, Mo. – The SEC released its 2020 SEC Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Poll on Tuesday. The SEC coaches selected both the men and women to earn top-5 finishes on the season. In the poll, both the Mizzou men and women's teams were selected to finish fourth overall.
SEC head coaches voted in the poll, but were not allowed to vote for their own teams. Points for the men's teams were awarded on a 1-11 basis, while the women's teams earned points on a 1-13 basis. Teams with lower point totals earned higher finishes.
The Mizzou men's team checked in at No. 4 with 50 points. Last season, the men finished seventh in the SEC Championships. Redshirt senior Kieran Wood (Cambridge, U.K.) returns for the Tigers after missing last season's championship. In the 2018 SEC Cross Country Championships Wood finished in tenth place and earned All-SEC Second Team honors.
On the women's side, the Tigers also checked in at No. 4 with 58 points. Led by senior Sarah Chapman (Maidenhead, England), the Mizzou women finished third in last year's SEC Championships. Individually, Chapman finished 18th in the race and returns for the Tigers this season.
Mizzou will open the season on Saturday, Sept. 19, as the Tigers hit the road for the Commodore Classic. Following the road meet, the Tigers will host two home meets at the Gans Creek Recreation Area to end the regular season. Postseason competition will begin with the 2020 SEC Cross Country Championships, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30 in Baton Rouge, La.
