Mauller earns first-team honors at 149, Jacques honorable mention at 157
Columbia, Mo. – Mizzou Wrestling sophomores Brock Mauller (Columbia, Mo.) and Jarrett Jacques (Columbia, Mo.) were named National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Americans on Friday (Aril 17). Each year the NWCA recognizes the outstanding work of the DI Student-Athletes by naming the All-Americans based on their achievements in the national championship, however, this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic the championships were canceled. All-American honors were based on each wrestler's overall body of work through the conference tournaments and up to the national championships.
Mauller, a first team selection by the NWCA, is now a two-time All-American after a sixth-place finish as a true freshman a year ago. This year, Mauller repeated as the MAC Champion at 149 pounds and earned the No. 4 seed to the national championships following a 28-1 season. He led the team in wins and major decisions (six) and his .966 winning percentage on the season ranks as the sixth-best mark in program history. Mauller, among his 28 wins, downed seven wrestlers ranked among WrestleStat's top-25, including fellow All-American Boo Lewallen of Oklahoma State.
Jacques earned honorable mention All-America honors after a 25-7 season as a true sophomore. He was the MAC runner-up at 157 pounds and qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season, doing so as the nation's No. 14 overall seed.
