Six-Time Spanish Junior Champ Signs National Letter of Intent to Attend Mizzou
COLUMBIA, MO. – The University of Missouri Women's Golf Team has added a six-time Spanish junior age group national champion to its program, as Martina Munoz (Valencia, Spain) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend and play golf at Mizzou.
Munoz, who carries a current scoring average of 75.42, has won six age group national championship tournaments in her native country from 2011-16. Selected as a member of the Spanish Junior National Team, she helped her team to a match play victory in an international Spain vs. France competition in 2016. In 2019, Munoz turned in seven top-10 finishes in World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) events, including a win at the Copa Club de Campo Sojuela in April.
"We are really excited about adding Martina to our family," said Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer. "She is a very driven student-athlete with a proven track record of success in international competition and training. She's got very high academic goals and is excited to be a Tiger. We have been virtually recruiting Martina for quite some time and have established a great connection with her, so even with all of the uncertainty happening around us right now, we're very certain that Martina will be a great addition to our team in the fall," she said.
Munoz said she's eager to get to Mizzou and see the campus for the first time in person.
"Since the first conversations with everyone I felt the atmosphere was very welcoming at Mizzou," said Munoz. "Throughout the recruiting process the coaches showed me their incredible facilities and the way they worked with their players. I definitely think Mizzou can help me become the best player I can be while enjoying being part of an awesome team," she said.
