
Mizzou Track & Field’s Thomas George Sets School Record in the 5,000m

George set his second school record of the season while the Tigers competed in the Iowa State Classic and the Tyson Invitational

AMES, Iowa- Mizzou Track & Field redshirt senior Thomas George (Maidenhead, England) set his second school record in three weeks as he demolished the original program 5000m record by more than 12 seconds, finishing with a time of 13:51.32 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa on Friday night.
NOTABLE FINISHES
George finished fifth in the men's 5000m invitational, his time breaking the top-20 fastest times in the country during the 2020 season. The school record comes after posting the program-best mark in the 3000m at the Razorback Invitational two weeks ago. Junior Sarah Chapman (Gloucester, England) took fourth place in the 3000m Invitational with a new personal best time of 9:21.89. Her time is good the sixth-fastest in the event in Mizzou program history.
TYSON INVITATIONAL
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mizzou Track & Field opened the Tyson Invitational on Friday in Fayetteville, Ark. by setting seven new personal records and a new record in the program top-10 rankings. Redshirt sophomore Sydney Oberdiek logged a mark of 18.92m (62-1) in the women's weight throw which notched a new personal record and moved her into eight place all-time in program history.
NOTABLE FINISHES
Redishirt junior Michaela Hackbarth stormed back in the women's 800m run to log a fifth-place finish and record a new personal record. Hackbarth's time of 2:13.61 was more than three seconds faster than her previous personal best.
The Tigers assembled a strong overall performance in the mid-distance events as all five Mizzou runners logged personal records in the mile run. On the men's side, redshirt freshman Marquette Wilhite (Warrensburg, Mo.) finished first with a time of 4:17.54 and freshman Isabelle Christiansen (Oswego, Ill.) posted a time of 5:01.71 which was good for fourth place on the women's side.
Mizzou attained strong marks in both sides of the long jump as redshirt junior Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) finished second overall in the men's long jump invitational by posting a jump of 7.81m (25-7.5). Meanwhile, redshirt sophomore Arielle Mack (El Paso, Texas) logged a personal-best mark of 5.93m (19-5.5) and finished eighth in the women's long jump.
UP NEXT
In Fayetteville, the Tigers will take on day two of the Tyson Invitational tomorrow while competition will continue in Ames at 1:00 p.m. CT as Mizzou sends two to the line in the men's mile. The Tigers will wrap up competition later in the afternoon following the men's and women's 800m runs.
