Bedell becomes the Tigers’ seventh all-time recipient of the major preseason honor
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball junior RHP Ian Bedell was named to the 2020 Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list, announced Thursday by USA Baseball. Bedell is one of 55 players nationally to be named to the prestigious preseason list.
Mizzou has now been represented on the Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list in two-straight years, as former Tiger OF Kameron Misner cracked the list in 2019. Other past Tigers to garner the major preseason accolade were RHP Tanner Houck (2016, '17), SS Ryan Howard (2016), RHP Kyle Gibson (2009) and RHP Aaron Crow (2008).
Heading into the 2020 campaign, preseason accolades for Bedell have been aplenty. In January, the Davenport, Iowa, native was named a 2020 Preseason Third-Team All-American by D1Baseball, as well as a Preseason Third-Team All-American by Perfect Game/Rawlings.

Bedell was dominant a season ago across Southeastern Conference and Cape Cod League summer competition. The Tiger righty combined to go 7-1 with a 1.14 ERA and 72 strikeouts over 71.0 innings pitched in two of the nation's premier collegiate leagues.
Beginning last spring in the SEC, Bedell evolved into one of the NCAA's top bullpen arms by accumulating a 3-1 record with a 1.56 ERA and 36 strikeouts over 40.1 innings pitched. His 2019 Mizzou sophomore campaign was highlighted by 19.0 consecutive scoreless innings from March 27 – May 3.
Following the Tigers' season, Bedell earned an invite to the prestigious summer Cape Cod League. He was virtually unhittable over six starts on the bump with the Wareham Gatemen, going 4-0 with a 0.58 ERA and 36 strikeouts over 30.2 innings pitched.
Bedell was later named to the 2019 CCBL All-League Team, as well as garnering the BFC Whitehouse Outstanding Pitcher Award for the Cape Cod League's top overall hurler.
