Scouting Report
- Tennessee enters the match with a 1-2 record on the season, with the lone win being over Vanderbilt (Sept. 27).
- The Volunteers have a -2-goal differential (2-4) on the season, despite firing just as many shots as their opponents. Jaida Thomas and Erin Gilroy have scored Tennessee's two goals this season.
- In goal, Lindsey Romig has made all three starts for the Vols – making 12 saves and posting a shutout over the Commodores.
- Mizzou trails the all-time series against Tennessee, 2-5-1, but claimed a victory last season in a 2-0 affair at Walton Stadium. The win was the Tigers' lone SEC win on the year.
- The Tigers have never won in Knoxville, trailing the series 3-0 on the road.
Blitz-ing Towards Another Milestone
- Mizzou head coach Bryan Blitz, the lone head coach in program history, is one-win shy of 250 wins in his career roaming the sidelines in Mid-Missouri.
- The 2015 SEC Coach of the Year, Blitz owns a record of 249-212-36 at Mizzou.
- Florida's Becky Burleigh, Texas A&M's G Guerrieri and South Carolina's Shelley Smith are the only coaches in the league to win 250 games at their current institution.
- Auburn's Karen Hoppa is approaching the milestone with 244 wins with the Tigers.
- Blitz is also fifth amongst his SEC colleagues in career wins with 294, trailing Smith (297), Hoppa (308), Guerrueri (473) and Burleigh (508).
Looking for a Road Win
- Mizzou is seeking its first SEC road win this weekend since a 2-1 victory at Kentucky, on Oct. 8, 2017.
- Since that victory, the Tigers have gone 0-10-2 in road SEC matches, and a 2-12-3 mark in all road matches.
- Victories at Iowa State (Aug. 19, 2018; 2-1 (2OT)) and Ohio State (Aug. 25, 2019; 3-1), and draws at Iowa (Aug. 17, 2018; 0-0), Georgia (Sept. 20, 2018; 0-0 and Ole Miss (Sept. 20, 2019; 1-1) are the only points Mizzou has secured on the road.
Nurnberger Receives a Pair of Honors
- Senior Cassidy Nurnberger was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week, and to the TopDrawer Soccer Team of the Week for her efforts in Mizzou's 2-1 win over Vanderbilt (Oct. 3).
- Nurnberger scored the game-winning goal on a strike across her body in the 61st minute for her first collegiate goal in the open field, and her first goal since scoring the game-winner against Kentucky on a penalty kick (Sept. 13).
- Nurnberger, a defensive midfielder, also helped the Tigers control the midfield, as Mizzou won the possession battle, 67% to 33% against the Commodores. She also had a key block on a shot in the final 20 minutes to help preserve the victory.
- The weekly honor was the first of her career, and she was the first Tiger to win SEC Defensive Player of the Week since Kelsey Dossey (Oct. 27, 2017).
Bartels Coming into Form
- Freshman Jenna Bartels made the most of her first career start on Saturday against Vanderbilt.
- The Frisco, Texas, native notched her first career assist, the game-winner, to get the ball out of traffic in the box and to Nurnberger for her goal.
- The assist was her first career point, and she is the first freshman to have a game-winning assist since Sarah Luebbert had one in a 5-0 win over Ole Miss on Sept. 9, 2016.
Tigers in the Pros
- With former Mizzou Soccer great Sarah Luebbert ('20) signing a professional contract with the Chicago Red Starts, Mizzou has two alumnae in the NWSL, and six total playing in professional leagues across the globe.
- The six alumnae playing professionally during 2020 is fifth in the Southeastern Conference.
- Luebbert is joined by Domi Richardson ('13) who plays with Sky Blue FC of the NWSL.
- Internationally, the Tigers are represented by:
- Rachel Hise ('19)- Hapoel Ra'anana (Ligat Nishim / Israel)
- Kelsey Dossey ('19)- RC Espanyol Femenino (Primera Division / Spain)
- Rachel Hignett ('17)- Medkila IL Damer (1. Divisjon / Norway)
