Tigers and Cowboys will wrestle at 2 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday in Stillwater
COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 24 Mizzou Wrestling heads to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to face off against No. 11 Oklahoma State. The Tigers will face the Cowboys on Sunday Feb 2, at 2 p.m. (CT). The dual will be broadcasted live on ESPN3.
Mizzou Wrestling, 10-5 (7-0 MAC) has won 21 consecutive wins against MAC teams dating back to 2017, and has claimed another MAC title. That all came after going 2-0 last weekend by beating Northern Illinois 32-6 and Cleveland State 20-12 on Saturday (Jan 25), extending the Tigers winning streak to four as they head to Stillwater to take on their old Big 12 rival.
The Tigers are looking to upset the Cowboys this weekend while keeping their current win streak going (currently won four straight). Last year the Tigers faced the Cowboys in Columbia where they had a close dual that came down to the last match between No. 16 Zach Elam and No. 2 Derek White. In the end the Tigers lost 19-15, and the Cowboys snapped the Tigers' 35-match winning streak. The Tigers and Cowboys have each had duals against Lehigh and Northern Iowa. When faced against Lehigh, the Tigers lost 22-9 at the South Beach Dual Tournament, and Cowboys also lost to Lehigh 21-20. Both teams headed to Cedar Falls to face UNI and both suffered defeats with the Tigers losing 20-13 and the Cowboys losing 19-15.
The Cowboys come into Sunday's dual 8-2 overall (4-1 Big 12), losing to only No. 10 Lehigh and Northern Iowa. They will wrestle South Dakota State (Jan 31) before hosting the Tigers on Sunday. They have big wins over No. 14 Minnesota (21-12) and No. 16 Princeton (18-15) and No. 18 Iowa State.
Looking ahead to the dual there will be a couple key matches:
- Allan Hart will face the freshman Reece Witcraft in what looks like a match that could be a big decision maker in the end.
- #6 Brock Mauller will face #1 Boo Lewallen in what will be the match of the night. Lewallen is undefeated and we're looking for Mauller to put an end to that with a big win.
- #23 Wyatt Koelling will face off against #11 Dakota Geer both wrestlers have four loses so we will see who will end up with a fifth after Sunday.
Below are the lineups for the dual:
- 125 – Cameron Valdiviez (15-7) or Dack Punke (12-9) vs. #4 Nick Piccininni (18-1)
- 133 – Allan Hart (13-8) vs. Reece Witcraft (12-6)
- 141 – Alex Butler (9-6) vs. Dusty Hone (15-6)
