Wright Records Ranked Win to Close Orlando Invitational

Wright defeats Virginia’s No. 78-ranked Munera in singles play
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Mizzou Tennis team finished competition at the Orlando Invitational on Sunday with four wins, three in singles play and one in doubles competition. The highlight of the day came from junior Ellie Wright (Gainesville, Fla.) who earned a ranked win in singles play.
DOUBLES
In doubles play, Mizzou recorded one win on the day from sophomore Vivien Abraham (Budapest, Hungary) and sophomore Lisa Fukutoku (Tokyo, Japan), who defeated Auburn's Carolyn Ansari and Yu Chen, 6-4.
SINGLES
Wright's victory in singles play highlighted the day for Mizzou, as the Tiger junior defeated Virginia's Sofia Munera in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. It is the first ranked win of the season for Wright, as Munera entered the tournament ranked No. 78 in the ITA College Tennis Singles Rankings.
Joining Wright in the win column on Sunday was freshman Elys Ventura (Auckland, New Zealand) and senior Gabrielle Goldin (Bradenton, Fla.). Ventura defeated UCF's Domenika Turkovic, 7-5, 6-4, while Goldin defeated UCF's Valentina Martin, 6-4, 6-4.
UP NEXT
With the conclusion of the Orlando Invitational, Mizzou finishes the tournament portion of its 2019-20 schedule, and will now transition to dual play, beginning Saturday, Jan. 26 as the Tigers hosts Western Illinois for a doubleheader at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. CT at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
