COLUMBIA, Mo. – As Mizzou Football prepares to open its 94th season of play at Memorial Stadium Saturday in a nationally-televised ESPN2 game against West Virginia, Tiger fans will get their first up close look at the new $98M South End Zone Facility which came on-line in late July, as well as several other game-day enhancements.
"We are thrilled to showcase the South End Zone Facility this weekend when the Tigers take the field against West Virginia," said Mizzou Director of Athletics Jim Sterk. "Not only is this building a game-changer for Mizzou Football, but it will go a long way toward enhancing the total experience for all Mizzou fans with additional premium seating opportunities, concessions and restroom facilities, and a state-of-the-art video board."
The South End Zone Facility serves as Mizzou's football operations center, including team and staff locker rooms, an enhanced sports medicine facility featuring a hydrotherapy area with recovery pools, Hydroworx and lap pools, a weight room, nutrition station and equipment room, as well as team and position meeting rooms, and coaches offices. The two-story weight room has direct access to the field, sports medicine area and locker rooms, while the coaches offices are located prominently on the highest level of the building with views into the stadium and a balcony for year-round use. The recruiting room/players' lounge is located adjacent to the coaches offices and affords outstanding views of Faurot Field, too.
The new end zone video display will feature a 13HD pixel layout and will measure approximately 29 feet high by 160 feet wide to provide 4,640 square feet of digital visual presentations to Tigers fans in nearly every stadium seat. It will feature industry-leading environmental protection to ensure it operates as expected in any weather.
Three indoor displays will also be installed in the new South End Zone Facility, all featuring 4-millimeter line spacing. A lobby display will measure 7 feet high by 14 feet wide, a club display will measure 8 feet high by 41 feet wide and a strength display will measure 8 feet high by 16 feet wide. These displays will connect with fans in different areas of the stadium as well as aid in coaching the student-athletes. The main display and three indoor displays are capable of variable content zoning allowing each to show one large image or multiple zoned images. They can each show any combination of live video, instant replays, game statistics and information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.
A new ribbon display will also be installed at the stadium. It will also feature a 13HD pixel layout and will measure approximately 3 feet high by 250 feet wide to supplement information on the main display while also offering the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout events.
The Tailgate Concert Series returns for its third season in 2019 on the west lawn of the Hearnes Center and will feature the following on stage this fall:
- Sept. 7th – SEC Nation
- Sept. 14th – Ozark Mountain Daredevils
- Sept. 21st – Alec Davis
- Oct. 5th – DJ Joe
- Oct. 12th – Norm Reubling Band & Shiloh
- Nov. 16th – DJ Joe
- Nov. 23rd – No concert
The ever-popular Tiger Town returns for the third-straight season on Mick Deaver Drive outside Memorial Stadium and will feature photo opportunities, bounce houses, face painting, as well as autograph opportunities with Mizzou student-athletes, sponsor and marketing activations, food and drink.
Tailgate Guys, a fan-focused hospitality and entertainment company, is Mizzou's exclusive tailgating partner this football season, offering new options for fans who want an enhanced game day experience in Columbia. A new tradition started last season returns in 2019, as BIG MO will again be staged on the North Concourse for a photo op for fans throughout the game, and feature a celebrity each week who will get the game started by hitting BIG MO to fire the crowd up.
Mizzou Athletics will be passing out 75,000 Tiger Tails throughout the season to start a new tradition at Memorial Stadium. The Tiger Tails will act as a pom-pom or shaker, similar to what a lot of other SEC schools have. Fans will receive their free Tiger Tail on the way into the stadium and are asked to bring them back each week to cheer on the Tigers when prompted on the video boards.
With the South End Zone Facility completed, the Tigers will now take the field through the new field level Bunker Club. This will give fans with membership in this space a special experience as they will be able to high-five the team as they enter the stadium right before kickoff.
During the off-season, Mizzou Athletics also re-labeled all of the stadium sections and rows in response to feedback from fans. For example, old sections AA & BB are now section 101, and seats will now be labeled 1-30 instead of 1-15 and 15-1.
Mizzou also announced last month that it would be selling beer and wine in public areas throughout the stadium on game day. Anheuser-Busch products as well as few local craft beer options and wine will be available in approximately 20 percent of the concession stands throughout the stadium.
Mizzou opens a five-game home stand Sept. 7 with West Virginia. Tickets are on sale for the 2019 schedule, which will feature seven home contests in all. Visit MUTigers.com for details, or contact the Mizzou Ticket Office at 1-800-CAT-PAWS (884-PAWS locally) with questions.
