A QUICK RECAP
Mizzou opened the scoring in the first quarter, as senior LB Cale Garrett's fumble recovery made the score 7-0. South Carolina's QB Ryan Hilinski caught his own tipped-pass and the ball rolled into the endzone, where Garrett fell on it for the score. It was the second consecutive time Garrett has found the end zone in as many weeks, and the third consecutive week Mizzou has recorded a defensive score, a feat which has not been accomplished since the first three games of the 2008 season. Mizzou closed the first frame with a 7-0 lead, and has now outscored opponents 58-0 in the first quarter this season, and 74-7 since Nov. 10, 2018.
Senior K Tucker McCann increased Mizzou's lead to 10-0 early in the second quarter, as he connected on a 42-yard field goal. It was McCann's four consecutive made field goal of 40+ yards, and his fifth of the season. After South Carolina scored a touchdown, Mizzou responded with a touchdown of its own, as senior QB Kelly Bryant found RS junior TE Albert Okwuegbunam for a three-yard TD to cap a seven-play, 56-yard drive. The score was Okwuegbunam's 21st receiving TD of his career, as he moved into a tie for fourth-place with J'Mon Moore on Mizzou's career TD receptions list.
South Carolina opened the third quarter with a quick touchdown to bring the score to 17-14, but Mizzou responded quickly, as the offensive moved methodically down the field once again. Mizzou finished off a 10-play, 75-yard drive with a 21-yard TD on a screen pass from Bryant to sophomore RB Tyler Badie, the first TD reception of his career. The Gamecocks were about to respond with a score of their own, driving down to the Mizzou three-yard line. S Ronnell Perkins was able to intercept a South Carolina pass in the end zone and return it 100 yards for a touchdown, setting a school record and surpassing Marcus King's 99-yard pick-six against the same Gamecocks in the 2005 Independence Bowl.
Senior K Tucker McCann connected on a 25 yard FG in the fourth quarter to close the scoring at 34-14.
