Alexis brings head coaching experience from Jackson State and Eastern Illinois to Mizzou
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Tennis added Lois Alexis to its coaching staff as a Volunteer Assistant Coach, announced Friday by head coach Colt Gaston. Alexis brings five years of coaching experience at the Division I level to Mizzou, including head coaching stops at Jackson State (2015-17) and Eastern Illinois (2017-18).
"I am thrilled to have Lois join our coaching staff here at Mizzou," said Gaston. "Her coaching experience and passion for her players was something I was very impressed with and I look forward to getting started with her."
"I am very elated to be given the opportunity to be joining the Mizzou family and to work with an amazing group of talented young women," said Alexis. "I want to thank Coach Gaston for extending this offer and I look forward to working with the best coaching staff in the country."
Alexis most recently served as an assistant coach at North Carolina Asheville (2018-19), where the team went 10-9 and advance to the semifinals of the Big South Championships. She also served as the Junior Tennis Director of the Hendersonville Racquet Club during her time in North Carolina. Prior to North Carolina, Alexis was the head coach of the women's team at Eastern Illinois for one season (2017-18).
At the helm of Jackson State (Miss.) men's and women's programs for two seasons (2015-17), Alexis led the men's team to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2016 & 2017) and its first conference title in 18 years (2016). The women's team also enjoyed much success under Alexis' guidance, leading the team to back-to-back HBCU Championship finals appearances (2016 & 2017).
Prior to her head coaching stops, Alexis was an assistant coach at her alma mater, Southern University, from 2013-15. In her collegiate career, Alexis was a three-time SWAC champion, and made three NCAA Tournament appearances from 2011-13, earning both her Bachelors (2013) and Master's (2015) degrees from Southern University.
Originally from Grenada, Alexis was the 2014 Olympic representative for her home country at the Caribbean and Central American Games. She was the top junior and No. 2 female in Grenada from 2002-14, and was a five-time recipient of the Grenada Sports Woman of the Year.
