Tiger lefty tallies two more All-American honors, plus All-Region nod
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball junior LHP TJ Sikkema extended his postseason national awards list Wednesday, highlighted by two more All-America honors.
The Dewitt, Iowa, native was named a 2019 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Second Team All-American, Perfect Game / Rawlings Third Team All-American and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division I Midwest First Team All-Region recipient.
It has been a busy offseason in the awards department for Sikkema, following one of the best all-time single-season performances by a Mizzou pitcher. Earlier this week he was named a 2019 Baseball America Second Team All-American and in late May he produced Third Team All-America honors by Collegiate Baseball. Following Wednesday's announcements, the Tiger lefty now has four All-America accolades on his season resume.
On May 20, Sikkema earned Second Team All-SEC recognition. Following the aforementioned All-America award by Collegiate Baseball, he was selected in the First Round (38th overall) of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Yankees on June 3.
On June 7, Sikkema was named the NCBWA District 6 Player of the Year. His dominant run to close out the 2019 campaign put the college baseball world on notice, beginning with Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist honors on May 15.
Sikkema was simply magnificent in his 2019 junior campaign at Mizzou, going 7-4 with a 1.32 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 88.2 innings pitched. For his three-year career in Columbia, Missouri, Sikkema's 258 strikeouts ranks sixth in program history.
The Tiger southpaw posted an incredible five, 10-plus strikeout performances this season, including double-digit punch outs in his final four home starts at Taylor Stadium. All four of those outings occurred in Southeastern Conference play, highlighted by a career-high 11 strikeouts against Kentucky on April 7.
