Wilmes Earns her First SEC Weekly Honor After Special Series Against No. 19 South Carolina
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball sophomore OF Brooke Wilmes was named the Week 13 Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Week, announced Monday, May 6, by the league office.
Wilmes takes home the weekly award after an absolutely dominant week that included a series win over No. 19 South Carolina. Wilmes quite literally won the series for the Black & Gold, blasting the walk-off solo homer to secure a game two win in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Tiger outfielder was the engine that powered Mizzou's offense all week long, finishing the week with nine hits on 15 attempts, four runs scored, three doubles, three RBI, a home run and a stolen base. Wilmes had multiple hits in three of her four games this week, pushing her multi-hit tally this season to 14, the most on the team.
Wilmes started her week off strong against UMKC, helping the Tigers run-rule the 'Roos, going 2-3 at the plate while scoring two runs and adding a stolen base. While she was off by her standards in game one against the Gamecocks (1-3 at the plate), Wilmes was an absolute force in game two, going 4-5 at the plate and scoring two runs, while also hitting the walk-off homer in the eighth inning, as previously mentioned. It was Wilmes' second four-hit performance this season. She is the only Tiger on the team with even one such performance this season. Wilmes finished the week off with a 2-4 performance in game three that also saw her collect two RBI.
