COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Mizzou's women's basketball and tennis programs were recognized Wednesday by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) with Public Recognition Awards for their Academic Progress Rate (APR) during the 2017-18 academic year. Both programs registered perfect APR scores of 1000.
"This achievement recognizes our student-athletes continued dedication and hard work in the classroom, as well as the on-going academic commitment of our coaches and outstanding support the Mizzou Made team provides," said Mizzou Director of Athletics Jim Sterk. "We are also grateful for the important role Mizzou's faculty plays in the education of our 550 student-athletes and deeply appreciate the high-quality learning environments they provide on a daily basis to all students on our campus."
It marks the fourth-straight year Mizzou women's tennis has received an APR award, while women's basketball earned its fifth all-time award, but first since the 2009-10 academic year. Mizzou Athletics has garnered 48 all-time Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA in 13 different sports over the program's 14-year history.
All told, more than 1,300 programs from 321 NCAA Division I institutions were recognized for academic excellence after scoring in the top 10 percent of their respective sports in the most recent Academic Progress Rates report.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams annually by the NCAA and measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term while providing a clear picture of the ongoing academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.
APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 8.
