STORYLINES
- Mizzou Softball has a busy week ahead, as the Tigers will travel to Wichita State for a midweek doubleheader before hosting Pitt and Oregon in Columbia for the Mizzou Tournament.
- Mizzou owns a 22-2 edge in the all-time series against the Shockers.
- The Tigers most recently dropped their series vs. No. 5 Tennessee, winning game one, but losing games two and three.
- With its victory in game one, Mizzou earned its sixth-straight SEC victory, the longest conference winning streak since the Tigers swept No. 16 Texas A&M and Mississippi State back in 2016.
- With its six SEC wins through 12 conference games this season, Mizzou matched its conference win total from all of last season.
- With the win, Head Coach Larissa Anderson grabbed her first-career win against a top-5 team.
- Mizzou topped Tennessee for the first time since April 3, 2016, when the Tigers beat the Lady Vols 7-3 in Columbia.
GASPER THE GAMER
- Sophomore P Cassie Gasper has proven to be the ultimate gamer this season, as the JUCO transfer now has four wins over top-15 teams.
- In those wins, Gasper owns a 2.07 ERA, surrendering just 14 combined hits in her wins against Arizona State, Georgia and Kentucky (x2).
- Though she lost in her only start against No. 5 Tennessee, Gasper again proved she can pitch against anyone in the country, as she only allowed two runs to the Lady Vols over 6.0 IP.
- Though she suffered the defeat, Gasper pitched 5.0 shutout innings vs. a top-15 team for the second time this season. She did the same in her CG shutout of ASU (2/8/19).
WERT ALERT
- Sophomore 3B Kimberly Wert continues to provide the Mizzou lineup with plenty of power.
- Wert bombed another home run in game one vs. Tennessee, which gives her 11 this season. Wert now owns the highest single-season total of any current Tiger.
- Wert is one of 39 players in the NCAA with at 11+ home runs this season.
- Wert now has 31 RBI this season, also the most on the team.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
- Two offensively dominant teams will go head-to-head on Wednesday, as the Tigers will travel to Wichita State for a midweek doubleheader. The Shockers have scored eight or more runs 11 times this season.
- The Shockers are hitting the ball exceptionally well, as they have five players batting over .300.
- Junior IF Ryleigh Buck is leading the charge with her 26 RBI on the season, as well as a .367 batting average to go with her and five home runs.
- The Shockers also have some depth at the pitching position as they have three pitchers who have ERA's below 3.50.
- Sophomore Pitcher Hailey Martinez has appeared 12 times this season and she has the lowest ERA on the roster at 2.60.
- The Shockers currently sit at 5th place in the American Athletic Conference with a conference record of 2-4, and an overall record of 21-14.
SCOUTING PITT
- The Tigers will host the Pittsburgh Panthers this weekend in their first and second games of the Mizzou Tournament.
- The Pittsburgh offense is led by Sophomore OF Hunter Levesque. She currently is batting .276 after 33 games played, while adding 16 RBI and 24 hits so far this season.
- The home run ball has been an instrumental part of the Pitt offense, as they have hit a combined 26 home runs this season.
- Freshman OF Katlyn Pavlick and Senior C Gabrielle Fredericks both are batting above .260 and have a combined 22 RBI on the season.
- Freshman Pitcher Abby Edwards currently leads the team with an ERA of 5.33 after appearances in a total of 21 games this season.
- The Pittsburgh Panthers are currently sitting in last place in the Coastal region of the ACC with a 2-10 record in the conference and a 5-28 overall record.
SCOUTING OREGON
- Mizzou and Oregon will face off twice in the Mizzou Tournament. The Ducks bested the Tigers on the second day of the season, nabbing a 6-1 win at the Kajikawa Classic back on February 9.
- After getting off to a scorching 7-1 start, including a huge win over LSU at the St. Pete Clearwater Invitational, Oregon has fallen off, losing 17 of its next 23 contests.
- Shaye Bowden leads the Ducks in RBI, tallying 23 of them so far this season. Bowden also has 28 hits, seven doubles and three home runs this season.
- Jordan Dail, who was superb against the Tigers in the game early this season, currently has a team best 3.77 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a whopping 142 Ks over her 133.2 IP.
