Beckner had 34 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks as a senior
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Mizzou Football senior DT Terry Beckner, Jr. (East St. Louis, Ill.) was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the first pick of the seventh round on the final day of the 2019 NFL Draft Saturday. Beckner is the second Tiger selected in this year's draft and the sixth Tiger selected in the NFL Draft under head coach Barry Odom.
Beckner is the eighth Mizzou defensive lineman selected in the draft first since 2009, continuing a long lineage of dominant defensive linemen to make it from Mizzou to the next level.
A former blue chip prospect, Beckner had an outstanding senior season that saw him earn Second-Team All-SEC pick by both the Associated Press and the league's 14 head coaches after returning to Mizzou for his senior season. He headlined a dominant group of defensive tackles as he led all Mizzou interior defenders with 34 tackles (23 solo) with a team-high 11.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, five QB hurries and a pass deflection. He suffered a pair of ACL tears early in his career, but fully recovered to become a dominant forced across the defensive line during his final two seasons in Black & Gold.
