
@MizzouTennis Returns Home for Three Matches This Weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou tennis team returns home to the Mizzou Tennis Complex to host a trio of matches this weekend. The Tigers face No. 9 South Carolina on Friday, March 8 at 5 p.m. before a doubleheader on Sunday, March 10, with matches against Florida at Noon and UMKC an hour and a half following the contest with the Gators. Admission is free. Free pizza will be available to the first 40 fans in attendance.
Two Tigers, junior Mackenzy Middlebrooks and sophomore Ellie Wright, jumped into the Oracle/ITA Division I Women's Rankings this week. Middlebrooks checked in at No. 97 in the singles rankings thanks to an 11-2 spring record, including a 10-2 mark at No. 1 action. Most recently, Middlebrooks downed No. 47 Justina Mikulskyte of Kentucky, 6-0, 6-2, on March 3 and played No. 3 Fernanda Contreras of Vanderbilt tough on March 1. Wright and Middlebrooks are also ranked No. 65 in this week's doubles poll with an 8-2 record at No. 1 doubles in dual matches.
Missouri (10-3) went 0-2 to two ranked opponents to open Southeastern Conference action with a 7-0 loss to No. 6 Vanderbilt and a 4-1 defeat at the hands of No. 25 Kentucky. Middlebrooks picked up her ranked win, her second of the year including fall action, against the Wildcats, only conceding two games in downing No. 47 Milulskyte on Sunday.
South Carolina enters this weekend ranked No. 9 in the nation with a 7-2 mark on the year. The Gamecocks opened conference action last weekend with wins over Mississippi State (4-1) and Ole Miss (4-0). The Gators, 4-5 this spring, went 1-1 in the first weekend of SEC comptetition, with a 4-1 win over Ole Miss and a 4-3 loss against Mississippi State. Additionally, UMKC owns a 3-6 record in 2019.
Following this weekend, Missouri travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on Arkansas on Friday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
