Hear From Head Coach Steve Bieser
On Friday's victory over the Rebels…
"It's always good to get that first SEC win under your belt. The guys did an outstanding job of competing. We didn't play a perfect game neither did they. We got some really good pitching and a couple timely hits and made things happen."
On the team's timely defensive plays as well…
"Some of the plays we made were outstanding. A leadoff double by them is thrown out at second by Clayton (Peterson). Then that double play turned by Mark (Vierling). Paul (Gomez) diving in the hole for a big putout. There was a lot of good things on defense. We have some playmakers."
On Gubelman and Dulle's performances out of the bullpen…
"It was good to see those guys come out in pressure-packed situations. Both of those guys responded well just like I thought they would."
#MIZ Takeaways
- Friday was the Tigers' first top 25 win of the season. It's Mizzou's first ranked triumph since a season ago, as it won 14-11 on the road at No. 13 Kentucky (April 28, 2018).
- Mizzou improved its spotless 2019 home record to 9-0 following Friday evening's victory.
- Good things happen when the Tigers score first, as they tallied a single run in the bottom of the first. Mizzou is now 9-3 this year when reaching the scoreboard first.
- The Tigers also continue to flourish when holding a late advantage. Mizzou's lockdown bullpen Friday improved its record when leading after eight innings to 13-0.
- Cornelius' pair of hits marked his team-leading 10th multi-hit game of the season.
- Holt Jr. stayed hot at the plate, extending his hitting streak to five games and producing his third multi-hit outing of the year.
- Junior UTIL Peter Zimmermann's first inning single extended his hitting streak to five games. Zimmermann and Holt Jr. are tied for the highest active hitting streak on Mizzou.
- Gubelman continued his outstanding performance out of the bullpen as of late with 2.0 shutout frames Friday. It was Gubelman's sixth consecutive scoreless appearance overall and pushed his consecutive scoreless innings pitched streak to 12.2.
- Arguably the biggest play of the night occurred in the top of the fifth inning, as sophomore 2B Mark Vierling and Cornelius turned a slick 4-6-3 double play. The defensive gem kept the game tied at one apiece, setting up Holt Jr.'s game-winning RBI double in the bottom half of the inning.
