Wood continues fantastic indoor season with third school record mark
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field set three program top-10 marks on Friday, as the Tigers had student-athletes competing at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. Junior Kieran Wood (Cambridge, U.K.) reset his own school record in the 3000m run, while redshirt sophomore Melissa Menghini (Fenton, Mo.) and redshirt senior Avery Carter (Lee's Summit, Mo.) joined Mizzou's all-time top-10 in the 3000m run and weight throw, respectively.
NOTABLE FINISHES
In Iowa, Wood reset his own school record in the 3000m run with a 12th-place finish in the invitational heat, as he crossed the finish line at 8:01.77. Wood has set a school record in each time he has raced this season, as he originally set the 3000m run school record at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational (Jan. 20) with a time of 8:04.03 before becoming the first Mizzou runner to run an indoor sub-four minute mile (3:59.64) at the Husker Invitational (Feb. 2).
In the women's 3000m run, Menghini entered Mizzou's all-time top-10 list for the first time in her career, as she finished fourth with a time of 9:32.62. Her time surpasses Anna Guillindsrud's 2005 time of 9:32.85 to rank 10th on Mizzou's all-time performance list.
In Fayetteville, Carter finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 20.70m (67-11) to rank sixth on Mizzou's all-time top-10 list. Carter improved his personal best mark from 20.17m (66-2.25), which he set in his season-opening meet at the Missouri Holiday Opener (Dec. 8).
On the women's side, Mizzou finished first and second in the event, as redshirt junior Jordan McClendon (Black Jack, Mo.) finished first at 20.55m (67-5.25) while redshirt junior CeCe Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) finished second at 18.51m (60-8.75).
UP NEXT
Mizzou will continue with competition at both meets on Saturday. In Arkansas, field events are slated to start at 10:30 a.m. CT, with track events at 1 p.m. CT. In Iowa, Mizzou will have two student-athletes in the men's 800m run at 3:15 p.m. CT.
