STORYLINES
- Mizzou Softball is headed to the Louisville Invitational this weekend, where it will face off Indiana State, Louisville and IUPUI, in its last non-conference tournament.
- Mizzou's 9-5 start to the 2019 season is its best start through 14 games since the Tigers went 11-3 back in 2016.
- The Tigers went 1-3 at the loaded Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, falling to BYU, No. 2 UCLA and No. 5 Washington, while blowing out New Mexico State.
NEW MEXICO STATE NO-NO
- In the Black & Gold's win over New Mexico State, Mizzou's pitching staff threw the program's 40th no-hitter. It was the first such performance since March of 2017.
- Senior P Madi Norman, junior P Eli Daniel and sophomore P Summer Shockley pitched the combined five innings.
- It was Mizzou's first combined no-hitter since March 17, 2013, when Chelsea Thomas and Lindsey Muller threw a combined no-no against Ole Miss.
THE RETURN TO LOUISVILLE
- It's a big week for Norman, who will return to face Louisville, the school where she played her first two seasons before transferring to Mizzou, for the first time.
- During her freshman season at Louisville, Norman had a 4.14 ERA over 49 innings pitched. She also registered 25 strikeouts.
- Under Anderson's tutelage, Norman has been playing lights out. Her current 0.85 ERA is good for sixth best in the SEC and by far the best mark in her career.
- Norman is 5-2 so far on the season, with her only two losses coming to Oregon State, who is currently ranked 25, and UCLA, who is ranked No. 2.
- Though she took the loss against the Bruins, Norman showed she could pitch against any team in the nation with a standout performance against UCLA, striking out five, walking no one, and surrendering only two earned runs.
SOPHOMORE SLUMP? NOPE
- The Tiger sophomore class has been the heart and soul of the team this season.
- Sophomore SS/2B Brooke Wilmes played her best game of the season against No. 5 Washington, as she registered four hits in her four at bats.
- It is the only four-hit game by a Tiger this season, and the first by a Tiger since Cayla Kessinger had four last season against Western Illinois (4/25/18).
- Wilmes followed up her performance against Washington with another stellar performance against New Mexico State, driving in four RBI. It is one of three such performances this season.
- Wilmes is T-1st on the team in hits (15). She is also the only player on the team with at least one double, one triple and one home run so far this season.
- Sophomore 3B Kim Wert continued her excellent power hitting, hitting her team-leading fifth home run against BYU.
- Despite a down weekend in Palm Springs, Calif., Wert still also leads the team in hits (15) and RBI (12).
- Sophomore C Hatti Moore continues to be one of Mizzou's most well-rounded players this season.
- She had another solid weekend at the Nutter, going 4-9 at the plate with two RBI.
- Moore already has nine hits this season, only seven off of her total from 2018. Moore also already has eight runs scored this season, totaling just 10 all of 2018.
- Sophomore CF Callie Martin has been excellent to start her second season in Columbia, starting all 14 games.
- Martin currently leads the team in doubles (5), is second in walks (7) and is one of four Tigers to have double-digit hits (12) and RBI (10).
- Martin also has three multi-RBI games, T-2nd on the team.
- Sophomore P Cassie Gasper has settled in as the No. 2 pitcher in Anderson's bullpen this season. Despite struggling at the Nutter, she still possesses a 1.69 ERA through 20.2 innings pitched.
- In her first career start at Mizzou, she shut out then-No. 12 Arizona State. She pitched another CG shutout against Villanova. Gasper also has the only save on the staff, striking out the final batter in the first Kansas game.
