Stewart led the Tigers with a 4-over par 220
OPELIKA, Ala. – Mizzou wrapped up play at the Auburn Tiger Invitational on Tuesday, and the Tigers were able to progressively lower their daily total to finish eight-shots better than the first day of action. Mizzou placed 13th overall with a tournament total of 29-over par, 893 (301-299-293). Host Auburn showed familiarity with the course, winning the event by nine strokes and was one of two teams to finish under-par in the event.
Sophomore Jamie Stewart's hot streak of top-20 finishes came to an end, but he remains the SEC's leader for most birdies made this season after his play in Auburn. The sophomore finished tied for 25th with a tournament total of four-over par (76-70-74-220), racking up 11 birdies, including six in his final round.
Following Stewart was fellow Scotland native Rory Franssen, who had the only eagle among the Tiger lineup this week. Franssen stayed consistent throughout the event and finished tied for 35th with a tournament total of six-over par 222 (75-73-74).
After a slow start for senior Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.), he proceeded to fire the lowest final round score for the Tigers' competitive lineup with a one-under par 71. The senior was in the zone his final seven, carding four birdies in a row to finish three-under par (33) on his back nine. Echelmeier finished the tournament tied for 43rd with a total of nine birdies and a tournament total of eight-over par 224 (77-76-71).
Freshman Tommy Boone (Plano, Texas), who played as an unattached individual, finished tied in the fourth slot with senior Luigi Botta (Cueno, Italy). After a tough start for the freshman, Boone was able to bounce back each day to record both his low 54-hole tournament total and 18-hole total. Boone ended the tournament strong, firing 2-under (34) on his back nine to card one-under par 71 for the day and a tournament total of 11-over par 227 (81-75-71).
Botta started and ended the tournament strong firing the low score for the Tigers on the first 18 holes with a 1-over par 73. The senior wound up with a tournament total of 11-over par 227 (73-80-74).
Finishing in the last competitive spot for Mizzou was junior Ricky Sanders, who shot 236 (80-81-75) to finish 77th overall.
The Tigers continue their spring season next at the Grand Canyon University Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona, from March 15-16.
