Tigers Drop Second Straight with No. 5 Washington On Deck

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Mizzou Softball fell to No. 2 UCLA 11-3 on Friday night at the Big League Dreams Complex. The Tigers showed excellent fight all night long, particularly in the third inning, when they scored all three of their runs. It wouldn't be enough, though, as the Tigers just didn't have the firepower to keep up with the Bruins as the game wore on.

Redshirt senior P Madi Norman played well against an absolutely loaded offense, going five innings while notching five strikeouts and only allowing two earned runs before being taken out of the game following a laser to her knee. Mizzou's defense was not in its typical crisp form against UCLA, committing a season-high five errors.

TOP TIGERS

Sophomore C Hatti Moore sparked the Tigers' electric third-inning push, registering a hit, a RBI and a run scored.
Sophomore SS Brooke Wilmes was also great in the inning, despite being hit in the stomach by a pitch. She recorded a stolen base and a run scored in the third.
Sophomore CF Callie Martin also registered a hit and a run scored.

TURNING POINT

The Tigers hung in, even taking the lead in the third inning as Moore crossed home plate following a UCLA wild pitch. However, UCLA responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the third, retaking a 5-3 lead.

The Bruins broke it open in the sixth, stretching what was a 5-3 lead into an 11-3 lead.

QUOTEABLES

"I thought Madi was amazing today," Coach Anderson said. "We just have to make the plays behind her. This is why you play games against teams like this. The ball is faster, the pitching is better, and the pressure is higher. I hope we see them again. When we do, we will be ready.

Mizzou will close out the Mary Nutter with contests against No. 5 Washington and New Mexico State. Both games will be streamable on FloSoftball.
