MIZZOU WELCOMES TOP-10 FLORIDA TO MEMORIAL STADIUM FOR SEC EAST MATCHUP
- Mizzou Football (5-4, 2-3 SEC) returns home after a lengthy road stretch to host No. 11 Florida (8-2, 5-2 SEC) in an 11 a.m. kickoff on CBS this Saturday (Nov. 16).
Saturday's game will also air on the Tiger Radio Network and ESPN Radio will also have the national call. - Mizzou returns home after 35 days between games played at Memorial Stadium. Mizzou last played at home on Oct. 12 in its Homecoming win over Ole Miss, 38-27. At the time, it was Mizzou's fifth consecutive win. Mizzou moved into the Top-25 polls the following week at No. 22, but then lost its next three contests, all on the road.
- With a bye week among those three road contests, Mizzou's 35 days between home games is a bit of a scheduling anomaly. In fact, Mizzou is the only Power 5 team to go that long between home games this season and it is tied with Ball State, Northern Illinois and Kent State for the longest such streak nationally this season.
MIZZOU HAS BEEN GREAT AT THE ZOU
- Mizzou will be happy to be back at its home Memorial Stadium and Faurot Field on Saturday, as the Tigers are a perfect 5-0 at home in 2019. In fact, the Tigers have been dominant at home this season, averaging 40.4 points per game and allowing just 11.6, with three Power 5 wins and a pair of SEC victories over South Carolina and Ole Miss.
- Mizzou is averaging 216.6 yards per game on the ground at home this season and limiting opponents to 70.2 rushing yards per game, good for a +146.4 advantage on the ground in its five home wins. Mizzou has an incredible 1,083 rushing yards at home this season, good for an average of 4.9 yards per carry. Its opponents are averaging just 2.1 yards per rush in five games played at The Zou this season.
- Mizzou is also averaging 245.5 passing yards per game at home while limiting its opponents to just 167.2.
- The Tigers own a +6 turnover margin at home and have scored five defensive touchdowns at home this season.
- Mizzou has won its last seven home games, dating back to last season. That's the program's eighth-longest winning streak in Memorial Stadium's 94 year history. It's Mizzou's longest since a 10-game streak from 2009-11.
THOSE WHO WIN IN NOVEMBER...
- ...will be remembered, and Mizzou has done plenty of winning in November under fourth-year head coach Barry Odom. The Tigers are 10-3 in the regular season's final month since Odom took the program's helm, with two of the three losses coming on the road at ranked teams. The Tigers had a streak of nine consecutive November wins snapped last Saturday at sixth-ranked Georgia. Below is a look at Mizzou's November games under Odom:
• Nov. 5, 2016 vs. South Carolina - L, 31-21
• Nov. 12, 2016 vs. Vanderbilt - W, 26-17
• Nov. 17 at No. 19 Tennessee - L, 63-37
• Nov. 25, 2016 vs. Arkansas - W, 28-24
• Nov. 4, 2017 vs. Florida - W, 45-16
• Nov. 11, 2017 vs. Tennessee - W, 50-17
• Nov. 18, 2017 at Vanderbilt - W, 45-17
• Nov. 24, 2017 at Arkansas - W, 48-45
• Nov. 3, 2018 at No. 13 Florida - W, 38-17
• Nov. 10, 2018 vs. Vanderbilt - W, 33-28
• Nov. 17, 2018 at Tennessee - W, 50-17
• Nov. 23, 2018 vs. Arkansas - W , 38-0
• Nov. 9, 2019 at No. 6 Georgia - L, 27-0 - Over its 13 November games under Coach Odom, Mizzou is outscoring its opponents, 459-319, good for an average of 35.3-24.5.
- Included in Mizzou's 10 November wins under Coach Odom are two against Florida, a 45-16 victory in 2016 and a 38-17 win over the 13th-ranked Gators in The Swamp a year ago.
SERIES VS. FLORIDA
- Mizzou and Florida have played eight times over the years with the Tigers holding a 5-3 edge in the all-time series. Mizzou has won the last two meetings with the Gators, including a 45-16 win in Columbia in 2016 and a 38-17 victory in The Swamp a year ago when the Gators were ranked No. 13 nationally.
- In games played in Columbia, Mizzou is 2-1 all-time, including the aforementioned 45-16 win in 2017. Mizzou lost to the Gators on Homecoming in 2015, a 21-3 defeat. The first-ever meeting between Mizzou and Florida in CoMo came in 2013, a 36-17 win en route to an SEC East title for the Tigers. Then-senior DE Michael Sam had three sacks in that game on his way to an SEC Defensive Player of the Year award.
- As part of the SEC, Mizzou has won four of seven meetings with the Gators, including the last two. The only other game between the two SEC East foes was in the 1966 Sugar Bowl, a 20-18 Mizzou win in New Orleans. Mizzou finished that 1965 season with an 8-2 record and a final ranking of No. 6 nationally under head coach Dan Devine.
LAST TIME OUT VS. SIXTH-RANKED GEORGIA
- Mizzou lost at No. 6 Georgia, 27-0, last Saturday night (Nov. 9) at Sanford Stadium. The loss dropped the Tigers to 5-4 on the year and 2-3 in SEC play while Georgia improved to 8-1 with a 5-1 mark in SEC play, sitting atop the SEC East standings.
- Mizzou's defense limited Georgia to just 339 total yards, despite the Dawgs coming into the game averaging 462.1 yards per game (26th nationally).
- The offense, however, struggled to get on track without starting QB Kelly Bryant, who missed the game with a hamstring injury suffered in the Tigers' previous game at Kentucky (Oct. 26). Mizzou mustered just 198 total yards of offense against a Georgia defense that ranked eighth nationally in total defense coming into the game.
- Despite the loss, the pass defense held strong against Georgia QB Jake Fromm, resulting in a career-low 44.8 percent completion percentage for the three-year starter.
- Mizzou's defense limited the Bulldogs to a 2.3 yards per carry average in the first half. Georgia came into the game averaging an incredible 6.1 yards per carry in the first half this season.
- The defense allowed just 27 total yards of offense in the second quarter, and that mark was at -6 before Georgia's final drive that led to a field goal as time expired in the opening half. The defense limited Georgia to just 4.3 yards per play in the opening 30 minutes.
- Sophomore LB Nick Bolton continued his All-SEC caliber season with nine tackles. Among his nine tackles were two tackles for loss, including his first sack of the season and the first full sack of his career. In five SEC games, Bolton has 55 total tackles (11.0 per game).
- Mizzou CB Jarvis Ware tallied a career-high seven tackles.
Mizzou junior DT Jordan Elliott was again tremendous in another All-SEC type performance, posting four tackles in the loss. Elliott now has 10 tackles over his last two games after posting a career-high six at Kentucky in Mizzou's previous game. - Junior QB Taylor Powell made his first career start in a tough environment at Georgia. He reset career-highs in attempts (22) and completions (10).
- Freshman QB Connor Bazelak came into the game in the fourth quarter and completed 8-of-12 passes for 64 yards. All of those numbers were career-highs for the true freshman.
