#MizzouMade Max Scherzer Wins First-Ever World Series

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Former Mizzou Baseball star, RHP Max Scherzer, earned his first-ever World Series championship Wednesday (Oct. 30) after the Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros in the seventh and final game of this year's Fall Classic. Scherzer, one of Major League Baseball's most dominant pitchers over his now 12-year career (2008-19), adds to his already Hall of Fame worthy resume.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Former Mizzou Baseball star, RHP Max Scherzer, earned his first-ever World Series championship Wednesday (Oct. 30) after the Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros in the seventh and final game of this year's Fall Classic. Scherzer, one of Major League Baseball's most dominant pitchers over his now 12-year career (2008-19), adds to his already Hall of Fame worthy resume.

The St. Louis native is a three-time Cy Young Award winner (2013, '16-17), led his league in wins four times (2013-14, '16, '18) and paced the league in strikeouts three times (2016-18). Scherzer has been named to the MLB All-Star Game in each of the past seven years (2013-19). 

The 35-year-old possesses a 170-89 career record with a 3.20 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 2,692 strikeouts across 12 big league seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2008-09), Detroit Tigers (2010-14) and Washington Nationals (2015-19). In the Nationals' unforgettable 2019 postseason run, Scherzer went 3-0 with a 2.40 ERA and 37 strikeouts over 30.0 innings pitched.
