COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field freshman Roberto Vilches (Mexico City, Mexico) is set to compete in the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru on Friday. Vilches, who will represent his home country of Mexico, will be one 16 competitors in the high jump at 4:50 p.m. CT.
Vilches enters the meet with the eighth-best mark of the field after setting a personal best mark of 2.27m (7-5.25), at the Mizzou Spring Open (April 6). He completed his debut season at Mizzou with a pair of All-America honors, earning a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 7) and a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 9). Vilches is the indoor school record holder in the high jump, as he broke Mizzou's 42-year-old school record at the Missouri Intercollegiate (Jan. 11) with a jump of 2.26m (7-4).
It will be the second competition of the summer for Vilches, after producing a mark of 2.16m (7-1) to finish fifth at the U23 NACAC Athletic Championships in July.
