James and Ortiz Highlight Wednesday's Offensive Explosion

  • Mizzou exploded for a season-high 17 runs Wednesday (April 3) at Taylor Stadium, cruising to a midweek victory over the visiting Kansas State Wildcats.

  • At the plate, junior 3B Austin James easily had his best career day at Mizzou with six RBI. Senior 1B Tony Ortiz also shined on offense with four RBI.
  • On the bump, freshman RHP Tommy Springer earned his second victory of the year, tossing 5.0 shutout frames while striking out a career-best seven batters.
  • Mizzou scored early and often against the Wildcats, highlighted by at least one run in the first five innings of play Wednesday. After single runs in the first and second inning, the Tigers exploded for four runs in the third, five runs in the fourth and six runs in the fifth frame.
  • The aforementioned 17 runs scored Wednesday marked a new single-season high, while representing the team's ninth double-digit scoring output this year.
