COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Cross Country redshirt junior Thomas George (Gloucester, England) and freshman Reilly Revord (Hinsdale, Ill.) each garnered recognition for their performances this past Friday at the Illinois State Invitational, as the Southeastern Conference announced its Athlete of the Week honors Tuesday. George was named the SEC Men's Runner of the Week, while Revord was named the SEC Women's Runner of the Week.
Both earned the honor for the first time in their careers.
George finished third overall at the ISU Invite, and paced Mizzou for the second consecutive meet as he crossed the finish line at 25:16.0 in the 8k race. It was his second top-three finish of the season after also finishing third at the Brooks Twilight Classic (Sept. 1). George has now paced the Tigers in seven consecutive cross country meets dating back to the Cowboy Jamboree (Sept. 30, 2017) last season. He finished off his 2017 campaign by earning NCAA All-Midwest Regional honors with a 15th-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships (Nov. 10).
Revord recorded her second top-10 finish in as many meets in Normal, as she crossed the finish line at 17:59.1 in the 5k race. Revord was the top placing freshman at the meet, and helped the Mizzou women win its second meet of the season. She improved her 5k time by 35 seconds from the Brooks Twilight Classic (Sept. 1), where she finished 11th overall at 18:34.02.
Mizzou will next race on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Ill.
