Lock moves into sixth in SEC history in career TD passes as Mizzou
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Mizzou Football improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2015 with a 40-37 road victory over Purdue Saturday. Junior K Tucker McCann connected on a 25-yard field as time expired to seal the win for Mizzou.
Senior QB Drew Lock threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns on the game, while sophomore RB Larry Rountree III and freshman WR Jalen Knox each recorded career-highs with 168 rushing yards and 110 receiving yards, respectively.
TURNING POINT
Saturday's game changed midway through the fourth quarter with Mizzou facing a third-and-10 deep in Purdue territory. The Boilermakers flushed Lock out of the pocket and forced him to move to his right. Lock tried to find a streaking RB Tyler Badie down the right sideline, but Dedrick Mackey picked off the pass to likely take points off the board. Purdue then took the ball on the ensuing drive and marched down the field for a methodical drive that ended with a 26-yard field goal to tie the game at 37-all with 3:28 remaining.
Lock then engineered a dynamic drive to regain the lead for good, as both senior WR Emanuel Hall and Badie made electric plays throughout the drive to set up the winning kick by McCann. On second-and-10 from the 25-yard line, Lock found Badie for a big 20-yard gain on a scramble after he was flushed from the pocket . Badie then ran for 16 yards on the next two plays before Lock found Hall for a big 25-yard gain down into field goal territory. Mizzou centered the ball and ran the clock down to three seconds. McCann came on and confidently knocked the game-winning 25-yard field goal. It is Mizzou's second straight walk-off road win, dating back to McCann's game-winner to close the Arkansas game in the 2017 regular season finale.
