COLUMBIA, Mo. – A pair of preseason polls were announced Monday, with the Southeastern Conference Preseason Coaches Poll and the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Regional Rankings both being released. The Mizzou Men's and Women's Cross Country programs both ranked No. 9 in the SEC preseason poll, while the men's team ranked 10th and the women's team 11th in the Midwest region on the USTFCCCA Regional Rankings.
Coaches from the SEC voted for the polls, with points awarded for the men's poll based on a 1-11 basis and the women's poll on a 1-13 basis. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. The USTFCCCA Regional Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region.
The men's team checked in at No. 9 with 83 points in the SEC poll and No. 10 in the USTFCCCA Regional Ranking following a ninth-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships. Returning contributors include redshirt junior Thomas George (Gloucester, England), who earned All-Midwest Regional honors a season ago with a 15th-place finish at the NCAA regional meet, and redshirt senior Evan Schulte (Columbia, Mo.), who finished third for Mizzou and 43rd overall at the 2017 SEC Championships.
The women's team was ranked No. 9 with 115 points in the SEC poll and No. 11 in the USTFCCCA Regional Ranking following a fourth-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships. Returning contributors include redshirt junior Sophia Racette (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore Jenna Lutzow (Belvidere, Ill.), who each finished in the top-60 of the 2017 SEC Championships.
Mizzou will open the season on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Brooks Twilight Classic in Memphis, Tenn. The SEC Championships will take place Friday, Oct. 26 at Auburn, Ala., and the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Friday, Nov. 9 at Peoria, Ill.
