Mizzou set the standard academically among SEC teams over the past year
Mizzou had another great year athletically, finishing with a school-record performance in the Learfield Director's Cup, but the success of Mizzou's student-athletes extended well beyond the playing field over the past year. The 2017-18 athletic season may have been the best year Mizzou has ever had in the classroom, highlighted by a Mizzou record 3.04 cumulative GPA for 550 student-athletes during the spring semester. Below are some of the highlights:
Academics:

- Both the men's and women's Cross Country teams received the 2017 NCAA Division-I All-Academic Team honor
- Karissa Schweizer and redshirt senior Megan Cunningham received the All-Academic Individual distinction.
- Soccer team was awarded United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for fourth year straight for exceptional academic performance
- Four Mizzou wrestlers – redshirt junior John Erneste, redshirt sophomore Connor Flynn, redshirt freshman 184-pounder Canten Marriott, and redshirt senior 197-pounder Willie Miklus – were named the to the Academic All-MAC team
- Ellyn Atkinson, Anna Elmore, Lydia Ely, Jennifer Berilla, Jacob Fair, Lauren Gaston, Grant Inskeep, Mitchell Forde, Euan Walker, Kirsten Mack, Matthew Margritier, Alexa Ethridge, Teylar Adelsberger, Lauren Aldridge received the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award.
- Sharli Brady of the Mizzou women's swimming and diving team earned a spot on the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District® 6 Women's At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA
- During the 2018-2019 academic year, over 18,300 tutoring appointments were scheduled for our student-athletes to aid in understanding their course material.
- During the 2018-2019 academic year, over 7200 mentoring appointments were scheduled to enhance student-athletes' study skills and assist with time management.
- During the 2017-2018 academic year, over 2000 hours were spent monitoring study hall.
- During the 2017-2018 academic year, over 900 classes were checked by in-person class checkers.
Student-Athlete Development:
- Ben Goodman (Men's Track and Field) and Sharlene Brady (Women's Swimming) were both finalists for the SEC Boyd McWhorter Postgraduate Scholarship earning $7,500 postgraduate scholarships.
- Victoria Trost (Women's Swimming) and Chase Brennan (Wrestling) were both finalists for the SEC Brad Davis Community Service Award earning $5,000 postgraduate scholarships.
- Kira Larson (Volleyball), Michael Chadwick (Men's Swimming), and Nolan Gromacki (Baseball) were named a Mizzou '39 recipient
- Kennedi Harris (Gymnastics) was named the National 1st Runner Up for the Arthur Ash Award; the highest status achieved relative to this award by a Mizzou Student-Athlete
- Lauren Aldridge (Women's Basketball) and Kelsey Dossey (Soccer) were named Chancellor's Excellence Award Winners
- Jordan Frericks (Women's Basketball) was honored with the AD Leadership Award
- Kevin Pendleton (Football) and Savannah Trujillo (Soccer) were name Student-Athletes of the Month by the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals
- Brandon Lee (Football) and Kennedi Harris (Gymnastics) were named the Varsity M Student-Athletes of the Year
- Megan Cunningham (Women's Track) earned the National Consortium for Academics and Sport Courageous Student Athlete Award
- Women's Track and Field won the 2018 Tiger Cup
- Men's Track and Field won the Team Dedication to Community Service Award
- Karissa Schweizer (Collegiate Sports Women), Sarah Reesman (Kent Heitholt Memorial Award), and Megan Cunningham (Inspiration Award) were honored at the Women's Intersport Network for Columbia Awards
- Kelsey Dossey (Soccer), Ali Kreklow (Volleyball), Taylor Stephen (Men's Cross Country), Anthony Hines (Football), Hannah Thomas (Women's Cross Country), Anthony Ashley (Men's Swimming and Diving), Payton Conrad (Women's Swimming and Diving), Sophie Cunningham (Women's Basketball), Jeremiah Tilmon (Men's Basketball), Britney Ward (Gymnastics), Nolan Gromacki (Baseball), Paige Bange (Softball), Clare Raley (Tennis), Karissa Schweizer (Women's Track & Field), Mark Sheridan (Men's Track & Field), Hayden Buckley (Men's Golf) and Amanda Kim (Women's Golf) were named to the SEC Community Service Team.
- During the 2017-2018 academic year, over 800 hours were spent aiding student-athletes in the career center with assessments, resumes, mock interviews, personal branding and career coaching sessions.
- During the 2017-2018 academic year, our student athletes spent over 4,400 hours volunteering with over 55 different organizations in Columbia and the surrounding communities.
