Tigers place 10th at NCAA Tallahassee Regional
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sophomore standout Jessica Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships on Wednesday, firing an incredible 6-under par in her final round of the 2018 NCAA Tallahassee Regional to move up 17 spots on the leaderboard and advance individually. She is the second Tiger in program history to advance to the National Championships individually and the first since Kristen Samp in 1996. Yuen captained Mizzou to a 10th place team finish.
Mizzou Women's Golf wrapped up the week with a 54-hole team score of 877, the Tigers' best ever score in an NCAA Regional. Mizzou's 10th-place finish was its best at an NCAA Regional since finishing third in 2005.
The Tallahassee Regional's talented field consisted of 12 ranked teams. The Tigers moved up two spots on the leaderboard on Wednesday with a 3-over par 291 to overcome No. 6 seed Vanderbilt and No. 10 seed Tennessee. The Black & Gold squad entered the Regional as the No. 15 overall seed.
Despite the team's 2017-18 campaign coming to a close as a group, Yuen is set to move on to the 2018 NCAA National Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Yuen, who entered Wednesday's play at even par, had an amazing comeback, carding a 6-under-par 66 to snag 12th place individually. It marked just the eighth round of 66 or better by a Tiger in program history. Yuen secured one of three individual spots needed to advance past the NCAA Regional. The individuals with the top three scores who don't compete for the six advancing teams are selected to move on to the NCAA Championships.
Yuen's 66 on Wednesday was the second lowest 18-hole score of her season and career. The National Championship will take place May 18-23 at the Karsten Golf Club.
Junior Emma Allen (Southampton, England) finished a great regional at 2-under overall after an even-par round Wednesday. Allen placed 22nd individually, ahead of 11 ranked participants.
Junior Cayce Hendrickson (Benton, Ky.) and sophomore Cherise Otter (Bloomington, Ind.) both shot 12-over to tie for 71st. Senior Clara Young (North Berwick, Scotland) shot 13-over overall and tied for 76th.
